Flooding in Southern Mozambique

In December 2025 and January 2026, weeks of heavy rain caused severe flooding in southern Mozambique. The rainfall overwhelmed regional reservoirs, causing the Limpopo and Incomati rivers to overflow into heavily populated areas and agricultural land. This false-color Landsat time series uses shortwave-infrared (SWIR) imagery to clearly separate water from land. Spanning from June 2025 to July 2026, the sequence shows the region before the storms, the widespread flooding in January, and the steady retreat of the water over the following months.
