Solar Orbiter Orbit Views (Pre-launch and Post-launch versions)
Oblique view of Solar Orbiter orbit evolution, based on the actual launch date to the nominal end-of-mission.
This visualization illustrates the trajectory of Solar Orbiter during it's multi-year study of the Sun. The orbit trail is extended to better illustrate the changes to the orbit plane implemented using gravity-assists from Venus.
A view from above the ecliptic of Solar Orbiter orbit evolution, based on the actual launch date to the nominal end-of-mission.
The visualizations below were developed prior to the launch of Solar Orbiter and do not reflect the changes required by the launch delay. They are kept available for historical interest only.
WARNING! THIS IS A PRE_LAUNCH VERSION OF THE ORBITS. IT HAS BEEN UPDATED BY THE VERSIONS ABOVE. Oblique view of Solar Orbiter orbit evolution, from launch to nominal end-of-mission.
