Judith Lean Glory Interview

Narration: Judith Lean

Transcript:

[Judith Lean] Well, the crucial question to understand about climate change is how and why it varies. And, it varies for many reasons. It varies because of internal variability, things like the El Nino southern oscillation, but it also varies when forcing agents change.

And an unresolved debate in climate change is what are the natural causes of climate change and how do they compare with the anthropogenic or greenhouse gas type forces.

In order to start answering these questions with sufficient certainty, to trust what we're learning, then we need to have long-term, accurate measurements of climate change.

Glory has two state-of-the-art instruments to provide new information about two of the forcings, namely the solar irradiance and the tropospheric aerosols that at the moment have large uncertainties.

The Glory science team consists of a number of experts in a whole range of climate change science, and it's really exciting to be working with people who are so knowledgeable about these aspects of climate change.
