Impact of Resolution on Total Precipitation in GEOS-5 Increasing the horizontal grid resolution is one way of improving the accuracy of global climate models. The simulations shown were run over 4 model days using the GEOS-5 atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM) at resolutions ranging from 800-km to 6.5-km on the cubed-sphere grid. Note how, as the resolution increases, more intense and more localized cells in the storm systems are resolved by the model.
