Geomagnetic Storm Causes Starlink Satellite Loss 

On February 3rd, 2022, SpaceX launched 49 Starlink satellites but 38 of them reentered the atmosphere just a few days later and they were lost. Solar plasma from a geomagnetic storm heated the atmosphere, causing denser gases to expand into the satellites’ orbit, which increased atmospheric drag on the satellites and caused them to de-orbit.
