            "description": "For the first time in half a century, four astronauts are leaving Earth’s protective magnetic field. They’ll enter a realm where massive solar eruptions can unleash more energy than a billion hydrogen bombs. The Artemis II crew will fly through a dangerous environment, but they’re not going it alone. On the voyage, the astronauts and their Orion capsule are outfitted with radiation trackers as ground teams monitor solar eruptions 24/7. Here’s how NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are protecting explorers from the most powerful eruptions in the solar system. During the 10-day past the Moon and back, the Orion capsule will fly by the far side of the Moon — the side that always faces away from Earth. During this three-hour period, astronauts will analyze and photograph geologic features, such as impact craters and ancient lava flows. They will rely on the extensive geology training they received in the classroom and in Moon-like places on Earth to describe nuances in shapes, textures, and colors — the type of information that reveals the geologic history of an area. These skills will be critical to exploring the Moon’s South Pole region through future missions.\n\nLearn more about Artemis II lunar science.\nLearn more about all Artemis II science experiments\nLearn more about the Moon at science.nasa.gov/moon.\n\n**Note: This page will be continually updated through the Artemis II mission. **\n\nMedia Contact: Lonnie Shekhtman NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.",

The Sample Return Capsule will streak into the atmosphere at 8:42 am MDT and land at the Department of Defense Utah Test and Training Range at 8:55 am.Touchdown will mark the end of a seven-year journey to explore asteroid Bennu, collect a sample from its surface, and deliver it to Earth. Scientists from around the world will study the sample over the coming decades to learn about the formation of the solar system and the delivery of organic molecules to early Earth.The week of Aug. 27, the OSIRIS-REx mission team gathered in Utah to test their landing and recovery plans. Their goal was to reduce the time to safely retrieve the capsule from the desert floor and transport it to a clean room on base, protecting the Bennu sample from earthly contaminants. On Wednesday, Aug. 30, NASA held a press briefing to discuss the test and to preview sample return. Presenter graphics are available below. Animations of OSIRIS-REx sample return are available here.Learn more about the drop test. Follow the journey to Bennu and back on NASA.gov and on Flickr. Over the following days, the team worked ahead of schedule to stow the primordial cargo for return to Earth in September 2023.During the teleconference, OSIRIS-REx team members discussed how the stowage process had gone, what else they had learned about the sample, and what the next steps are for the mission to return the sample to Earth. || ",

            "title": "Comet ISON",
            "description": "Catalogued as C/2012 S1, Comet ISON was first spotted 585 million miles away in September 2012. This is ISON's very first trip into the inner solar system. That means it is still made of pristine matter from the earliest days of the solar system’s formation, its top layers never having been lost by a trip near the sun. Along Comet ISON's journey, NASA has used a vast fleet of spacecraft and Earth-based telescopes to learn more about this time capsule from when the solar system first formed.During the last week of its inbound trip, ISON will enter the fields of view of NASA’s space-based solar observatories. Comet ISON will be viewed first by NASA's Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory, or STEREO. Next the comet will be seen in what’s called coronagraphs by both STEREO and the joint European Space Agency/NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO. Then, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory will view the comet for a few hours during its closest approach to the sun, known as perihelion.",

            "title": "Most Wanted",
            "description": "There are about 600,000 asteroids in the solar system. That's roughly one for every person living in Washington, D.C. And with more of these rocky objects being found all the time, it's becoming harder to keep track of them all. That's why NASA scientists have assembled a most-wanted list of about six-dozen asteroids that, with the help of amateur astronomers, will be studied in preparation for the first U.S. asteroid sample return mission. Scheduled for launch in 2016, NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft will orbit asteroid 1999 RQ36 and collect a sample from the surface that is returned to Earth. Analysis of the primitive material will not only reveal new information about the molecular origins of life and how the early solar system formed, but also provide insight into the behavior and movement of near-Earth objects in space. Watch the video below to see how the spacecraft will obtain a sample from the asteroid. || ",

            "title": "Goddard Space Flight Center (1976)",
            "description": "Celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2009, Goddard Space Flight Center has seen a lot of changes over its first five decades. Yet at the same time, the core values and mission of the center has changed little. This vintage film from 1976 shows a time-capsule glimpse of GSFC's early foundations and how remarkably similar they are to today.
