Larsen Clouds

  • Released Wednesday, April 19, 2000

Looking through cirrus clouds over the Larsen Ice Shelf in the Antarctic.

This visualization was made to demonstrate a technique developed by scientists to remove clouds from data images by using cloud data. Initially, you will see the Larsen Ice Shelf with the clouds obstructing the view, then fades to a mask to mask out the clouds, and then removes the clouds from the view, leaving the Larsen Ice Shelf unobstructed.
