NASA DLN Presents Earth Day with Landsat

These are excerpts from an Earth Day DLN webcast that features scientists and engineers discussing how the Landsat mission has helped us see and study our changing planet.

Terry Arvidson is the senior project engineer on Landsat 7 and has been with the Landsat mission since 1978. She speaks about how she got involved in NASA and Landsat, how the instruments produce the vivid images, and some of the challenges in maintaining older spacecraft and being a translator between the scientists and engineers who work on Landsat.

Dr. Bob Bindschadler has been an active Antarctic field researcher for decades and has led numerous field expeditions to Antarctica and has participated in expeditions to glaciers and ice caps around the world. He was key in developing LIMA, the Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica and here he talks about how scientists and the general public can use this amazing tool to virtually explore this amazing continent.

Dr. Jim Irons is the project scientist on the upcoming Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM). He has used his lifelong passion for studying the environment throughout the decades he has worked on the Landsat mission. Here he speaks about how Landsat can help look at the change in land use over time and what impact those changes will have on how we use our planet's precious resources.
