Transcripts of G2014-053 Beautiful Earth MASTER

There are many ways to get kids interested in science. The Beautiful Earth educational program engages students through the heart, head, and hands in a multifaceted attempt to explore our relationship with the Earth. About 140 students, parents, and teachers attended the Beautiful Earth program this June at the Goddard Visitor Center. First, they watched Bella Gaia, a multimedia performance of NASA visualizations accompanied by vocalist Kristin Hoffman. [singing] Next, the students learned about the Aura atmospheric chemistry mission, which is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. Then, they participated in a variety of hands-on activities, putting into practice some of their newly leaned Earth science concepts. Valerie: The whole idea is to get them interested in STEM careers, and we want them to come to NASA to work as engineers, as scientists, and also let them know that Earth science is a field field at NASA, studying our home planet, and that they can have careers in this area and it's very important for also for the future of our planet for them to get involved and interested.
