Well solar flares and solar eruptions are kind of a one, two, three, punch. The first punch is related to the electromagnetic radiation coming from the flare. Those can last some minutes, few hours. Then the second punch in this area is the generational very fast moving particles, and this can last several days. And then in the serious the third punch is when these massive clouds hit the Earth's near space enviornment and again those impacts can last for several days.
