In 1984 Lake Monoun exploded, emitting a deadly gas. Following almost exactly two years later in the wake of this natural disaster a similar explosion happened at Lake Nyos; although this time the death toll was much higher (over 1700 people and livestock). Combined, the gas emissions from these lakes killed over 1800 people and livestock in neighboring villages.    Animation flying over 3D terrain starting at Lake Monoun going to Lake Nyos.
