Ozone chemical cycle

The ozone layer from satellite observations. The colors indicate the mixing ratio in ppmv, red is 13 ppmv with color contours at 0.5 ppmv intervals). Overlayed on the figure are the chemical compounds that control ozone. Rising from the troposphere are Source Gases which are converted to Reservoirs for the ozone destroying Radicals. Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) is directly injected into the stratosphere by volcanoes and is converted into sulfate aerosols.
