These images show the metropolitan area of Detroit and a close-up view of its downtown area. In the view of the entire city, north is up. The lake to the east of the city is Lake St. Claire while the northwestern corner of Lake Erie appears in the bottom right corner of the image. The Michigan side is on the image's left, while the long neck of land to the right across Lake St. Claire is Canada. The Canadian city of Windsor can be seen across the river from Detroit. The shortwave infrared (TM band 5), infrared (TM band 4), and visible green (TM band 2) channels are displayed in the images as red, green, and blue respectively. In this combination, barren and/or recently cultivated land appears red to pink, vegetation appears green, and water is dark blue.
